Firstly, thanks to Harish Baba who accompanied me to get my bike sacrificing his singing competition.
At last i bought a bike. It's a red one and looks pretty much like a commuter bike but it's a powerful one. It's very easy to convince parents regarding buying bikes etc. I tried to explain my problems in roaming around hyderabad. The job of waiting at a bus stop for a bus, boarding the fully crowded bus and reaching the destination is a big headache. At last when you reach the destination you find your legs aching, head gone mad in the rush etc. You can't enjoy the journey on a whole. This is what i said to my parents to convince them. They had an even more strong reason to convince me. Their worry is about the heavy traffic in hyderabad roads and how would i cope up with that. Of course, everyone agrees with the fact that hyderabad roads are too dense. Roads in hyderabad constitute only 6% of the total area where as in Mumbai roads constitute 10% of the city area. This is where our government should look at and respond. But it is too far from reality that our government acts at appropriate time. I was sick of convincing them and at last gave up. Now comes the irony. I watched the movie "Gandhi" one day and also read a lot of notes on Gandhi though i knew a lot about him. An article mentioned that the success fo Gandhi is attributed to his quality of "Satyagraha". This is the main weapon which brought independence to india. At once i thought that i could use this weapon and stopped calling home. Usually i speak to home at least 40 minutes daily. I denied from calling home for 3 days. The next day mom called me and asked what was the problem. I said i wont talk to you unless i was given what i asked. Of course, that was not in my mind. If mom wouldn't have called that day, then i would have definitely called her. But owing to my luck mom called me and clarified the problem. Thats it. I got the grants. The next step would be to go after the selection of the bike. There were many bikes in the market today. The main postulates i took care of while taking a decision are
1) Company(brand equity). 2) Engine and Mileage. 3) Gear Box. 4)Style in the order of preferences respectively. The bikes i considered were 1) Unicorn. 2)Achiever. 3)Apache. 4)Discover. 5)Pulsar.
The much happening "Pulsar" bike was ruled out in the prelims only on one reason that dad didn't like it.
Coming to Unicorn, it's engine is great and mileage is reasonable. Gear box is very smooth with 5 gears. But the only problem that dad pointed out was that it sported the new single suspension rather than the conventional dual suspension. This created a bit of dilemma. It's tail is too steep and delicate (looks like). This is not a good sign. The bike should be ruf n tuf. Coming to the company, honda is an internationally acclaimed company but it didn't prove itself in india.
The next one to look at was Discover. The problem with discover is that it is a 125CC bike where as all others are 150CC bikes. Also, the visor of discover is (Yaccccc) disgusting. These are enough to eliminate it.
Coming to TVS APACHE , it is the BIKE OF THE YEAR 2006 but takes time to come into the market. I don't think i can have a TVS bike. I simply don't like the brand.
The next entry is the HH Achiever. The brand name HH(Hero Honda) is astounding. Only company which sold 4.5 lac bikes in one fiscal year. So it bagged full points regarding brand. Secondly i am concerned about the engine, mileage and gear-box. The engine and gear-box of HH Achiever are the same as Unicorn. The only difference between the unicorn and HH Achiever is the external body and the shock absorber system. HH Achiever uses the conventional dual shock absorber system which is highly adaptable and time-tested on indian roads. So it secured full points in this aspect also. Coming to the mileage, the road tests revealed that on 6 litre petrol, Pulsar gave a mileage of 330km, CBZ gave 295km, Unicorn gave 375km and HH Achiever gave 400km. Hence, the mileage is more than reasonable. Considering the past records also HH bikes are very good at mileage. So they are reliable. Another added point is that HH after sales services are the best in india with 6 free services and 3 year warranty. Coming to the most happening aspect "STYLE". This bike definitely lags at style, i do agree but i don't think style matters much for me. Anyway this bike is not that ugly to look at. It is okay. Why do you wanna be so stylish? Do you have anyone to impress or flirt? This is the basic question to put before considering the style factor. I guess i don't need to. So i excluded the style factor. After all, i liked the bike and most importantly dad liked the bike. This is enough to take a decision. I finally bought Red HH Achiever.
